The Truck Add-on Predictor was developed under a collaborative effort sponsored by the Department of Energy and managed by the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences. Collaborators included the Ohio Supercomputer Center, TotalSim, SimaFore, and Nimbis Services. The Truck Add-on Predictor allows suppliers unfamiliar with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model the airflow over a joint vehicle / trailer body and the corresponding aerodynamic forces generated on the trailer, tow vehicle, and combination. By understanding the forces on the various surfaces of a trailer, trailer designers and part suppliers can reduce the weight of key structural components, replace them with other materials, or utilize novel shapes that are required for special materials while potentially increasing the aerodynamic efficiency of the trailer. The CFD calculations are performed using TotalSim’s optimized version of OpenFOAM, an open source CFD software package.
The Subscription Plan: For users that have completed the Truck Add-on Predictor Startup Package, the Subscription Plan offers an annual subscription service.
